Chido Govera
Farmer, campaigner & educator
Chido Govera lives in a poverty-stricken community in Zimbabwe. As a child she had to provide for her younger brother and blind grandmother. She tended a field where she attempted to grow maize, sorghum and millet. But the crops always failed. At the age of 11 she found a way to grow edible mushrooms using the waste from these failed crops. This turned into an opportunity for the community. She was able to provide food not only for her family and community, but she could help other orphans that could not afford to pay their school fees. She has used her idea to educate and help people throughout Africa and beyond.
