Dominic. Firstly thanks for watching and I’m glad it provoked enough emotion for you to write a comment – much appreciated.

Just to say, the 7 emotions I referred to are not Kahneman’s work but Paul Ekman, who’s work is about the emotions we’ve evolved to read in people’s faces. There are many more emotions but the 7 that we can read in people’s faces and which we use to test the potency of adverts are; surprise, sadness, anger, fear, contempt, dusgust and happiness [seems you may have felt one or two of these watching my talk].

I guess it proves two things; that as I say in the content, people pay far less attention to the content than we or they think [we remember emotionally] and at least it means I must have read at least 2 books to produce the talk.

Delighted to be able to be able to have a heated debate – much better than neutrality for memorability.

I have been a professinal for a number of years and was made reduant before xmas, I have spent time on training courses and leadship training never have I been more ispired then when I logged on to this website as an accident as I was looking at FForest as a wedding venue.

From just listening to the talks I am Starting to DO ..thank you so much what a wonderfull idea /s and a place that I will visit one day.

Hi Neil. I had the pleasure to meet you in San Francisco at the IACP conference. Woody M. introduced us. I will be seeing Woody and Jody in late January, interning for his basic mediation training. I enjoyed your Do Lecture. It provided me valuable material to pass on the the attendees at the January training. Right now I am noting how we, as collaborative attorneys / mediators, are given the opportunity to model conversational riffs that differ from the status quo riffs that our clients find themselves in. It is remarkable how shocked the clients are when they get agreement, acknowledgment, etc, and NOT defensiveness, when they express their feeling. Then the OTHER spouse gets to witness the impact of the different way of reacting has on their spouse. Very good stuff. I look forward to seeing you here in Seattle in May.

You put into words some of my thoughts. I often run long distances in the mountains of Utah and have a hard time describing my passion to others. Thanks for giving me hope and ideas on how to express the feelings I have in a way people might understand. “If there’s no future in it, at least it’s a present worth remembering.” Well said!

Good lecture, I started growing my own veg 2 years ago, my plot is a small suburbean garden, very little space it has a mix of both flowers shrubs and veg, I grow in a small raised bed, inbetween flowers, in pots or in any trough or vessel which can hold soil. GIY Fantasic idea

I have showed Mickey’s film to my teenage daughter and she was really moved… I, personally was not only moved but humbled too… I also surf, love the Ocean and am passing this on to my kids… I will show them the film and want to get it showed at their school, too many kids are confused nowadays… they need inspiration… Thanks for sharing the stoke Mickey.

I agree with Jonathan in the fact that pointing out the problem helps, but making it a point to voice your opinion of it’s severity doesn’t. Issues with cross browser compatibility happen, It’s nearly impossible to test for every such occasion that might occur. I know this as I too am a web designer.

Plus there are other browser and other OSs to view this content on.

Intervention is much more likely if you give birth in a stressed state in hospital – in the UK there are 2 midwives present at a home birth – if something should go wrong their constant attention to you will pick it up far earlier than sporadic visits by rushed midwives in hospital. Its a myth that homebirthing is dangerous.
Childbirth is natural – and should take place wherever possible in natural surroundings.
Having had 2 very big boys at home myself – I couldnt recommend it highly enough.

Thanks for your comments. Casey you could try the Soil Association Apprentice scheme or do a horticulture course. I think it is so useful to gain the practical skills. Once you have these it is easier to decide more specifically what you are looking for. Best wishes

yes i love this idea very much. but one problem emerges when you think about the fact that being in the hospital makes it more likely that if anything goes wrong, there is medical staff and good equipment to handle the situation.

It depresses me how some market researchers seem to read one book on a topic and misunderstand it.
John says Ekman’s work shows that “there are seven emotions that are universal in the world.”
No.
Ekman’s work shows that there are seven facial expressions of emotion that are universal.
There are many more emotions than this, and in the 1990s Ekman produced a list of basic emotions, including a range of positive and negative emotions not all of which are encoded in facial muscles.

His point was that the expressions associated with some emotions were basic or biologically universal to all humans.

Not that there are seven emotions that are universal in the world.

As a web developer myself, and as the owners of this site are probably too polite to point this out, comments that something isn’t working are always useful. Comments on your view of the seriousness of the fault are patronising and irrelevant. Do you honestly think that it helps them or that they need to be told that this is a pretty serious fault?

Besides, ultimately, it’s not pretty serious as other browsers exist. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend trying one and watching – it’s great content.

Not all of the above concepts make sense for all kinds of books. My personal guess is that the book market will blur into a range of different reading experiences, e.g. a typical programmers’ handbook will preferably tie into the community and offer downloads, while a sci-fi novel might include movie artefacts. A collection of short stories would probably cater more to the distracted, etc.

I am experiencing the same problem with these videos on chrome in linux. Firefox plays it but it keeps cutting out. Cannot d/l through itunes either being on linux. Altogether this is a pretty serious fault.

Helping kids will indeed make a better world. I wish I could somehow help you, but I seem to be so caught up in the matrix of our daily routine with our own families, kids and work.
